Re. that last boost, I can't think of any other publisher that has had as much of an effect on my cultural life as Atlas Press. I found them—or they found me—in the late 1980s, and their books have been with me ever since, through successive collections of the Printed Head titles and membership of the London Institute of 'Pataphysics (in a ‘pataphysical turn of events, I let my sub lapse a few years ago…).

Alastair is very sadly missed, but what a life and legacy.

Really sad to learn of the passing of Alastair Brotchie, whose stimulating and vital work with Atlas Press transformed the sphere of my reading in my late teens and—as a result—my outlook on the written word forever.

Alfred Jarry, ‘pataphysics, the OuLiPo, situationism: I’m not sure I’d really have encountered any of this without him. What a staggering and dogged contribution to the world of avant garde arts and letters he made. Go well into éthernité!
