While the first transatlantic service by Alaska Airlines was big for them, it technically wasn't new. They already fly the same duration flights on 787s between Seattle & Seoul, about 11 hours on the westbound leg. For the summer season, their fleet of 5 787-9s are SEA-FCO๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น & SEA-ICN๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท. 787s on SEA-HNL will mostly end after moving the 787 pilot base from HNL to SEA. SEA-NRT๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต switched to Hawaiian A330s to free up 2 787-9s for Rome. http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=sea-icn,+sea-fco #Alaska787 #aviation #travel #avgeek
#Alaska787 N780HA took off from Seattle on Alaska Airlines' first transatlantic scheduled service. (They've flown a 787 to Europe on a route-proving test flight. This is the first with passengers.) Follow for yourself at https://adsb.lol/?icao=aa9136 . (Goofs by adsb[.]lol to ignore: shows old photo in Hawaiian livery, mistakenly describes ASA180 by prior route for that flight number GEG-SEA.) #aviation #travel #avgeek
"Alaska Airlines launches first flight from Seattle to Rome" by @TheSeattleTimes / Lauren Rosenblatt - First transatlantic service by 94 year old Alaska Airlines goes today to Rome๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, 70 years after moving its headquarters to Seattle. It wasn't until the 2024 acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines that it had widebody airliners for long-haul routes. It was probably about time for this. Andiamo! One day before Alaska Airlines begins Seattle-Rome service, they announced the new on-board safety video for their 787-9 Dreamliners. It features scenes from Seattle, Tokyo, Seoul, Rome & Sydney. (None in Alaska or Hawaii.)

Sydney is not an announced Alaska 787 destination from Seattle. But Hawaiian A330s already fly there from Honolulu, now with Alaska radio callsign. So it's pre-announcing SEA-SYD plans must be next. https://news.alaskaair.com/guest-experience/alaska-airlines-safety-video-boeing-787-dreamliner/ #Alaska787 #aviation #business #travel #avgeek #PNW

Alaska Airlines debuts its first-ever onboard safety video for new global flights from Seattle on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Guests traveling on the 787 Dreamliner from Seattle will also see a new welcome video from Alaskaโ€™s CEO Ben Minicucci โ€“ another first for the airline.

#avgeek musings: with the #Alaska787 hangar lease at PDX approved and groundbreaking expected this summer, avgeeks will have to watch how the timing unfolds for two events both possible around late Summer to Fall: completion of the PDX hangar and delivery of Alaska's next Boeing 787-9 line number 1340. If the hangar & maintenance facility is done first, it becomes possible the 787 delivery flight would be to #KPDX. Currently Alaska does fleet induction at #KLAX. #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW
"Port approves lease for major Alaska Airlines maintenance hangar at PDX" - press release from Port of Portland (Oregon): lease approved for Alaska Airlines to build its widebody airliner maintenance operations hangar at Portland International Airport PDX. Groundbreaking and construction expected this summer. This will be Alaska's first hangar on the mainland big enough for A330s & 787s from Hawaiian Airlines acquisition. https://www.portofportland.com/Newsroom/port-approves-lease-for-major-alaska-airlines-maintenance-hangar-at-pdx #Alaska787 #KPDX #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW

Attention avgeeks: if you want to catch a picture of a #Hawaiian787, you have about a week left to do so. #N783HA is currently the last 787-9 in Hawaiian livery, doing SEA to HNL/NRT/ICN flights. It's due to go to the paint hangar around the middle of next week if N782HA is painted in #Alaska787 livery as quickly as N781HA was. Here's a video I got of N783HA departing PDX after fog in Seattle diverted it here on a flight from Honolulu on Dec 31. https://avgeek.social/@ikluft/115816368291110708 #aviation #avgeek #PNW

Later in the takeoff and climb, Mount Hood is 40mi/65km in the background as the plane makes its left turn toward Seattle. It only climbed to 21,000ft before leveling off into one of the arrival corridors for Seattle. #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

Portland City Council unanimously approved a boundary adjustment to include the half of the property for the proposed Alaska Airlines widebody maintenance hangar not already in the airport "Enterprise Zone", where up to 5 years of property tax discounts are available for exceeding a threshold of long-term job creation. Currently Alaska only has such a hangar in Honolulu, from Hawaiian Air acquisition. No room in Seattle. https://www.portland.gov/council/documents/resolution/enterprise-zone-boundary-amendment #Alaska787 #KPDX #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW
