Speaking of EPs with Anniversary’s, the #CocteauTwins #PeppermintPig is 41 years old this month! The last to feature #WillHeggie on bass and production by the sadly departed #AlanRankine of #TheAssociates The only ‘dance’ record the band made!
Just heard the news: #AlanRankine passed on January 3rd. He was the inventive multi-instrumentalist and composer behind the eccentric voice of Billy Mackenzie in #TheAssociates. He went on to work with a long list of UK indie legends including Paul Haig, Cocteau Twins, and the Pale Fountains. One of Scotland's finest. 🎶 🙏 😢 #Music #PostPunk #NewWave https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/jan/05/alan-rankine-obituary

Two very talented young men that entered from the shadow of Bowie and moved at lightning speed into amazing realms. Those first 2 LPs influenced all of us reaching for those same heights.

Listen to this episode from Electronically Yours with Martyn Ware on Spotify. Today’s exciting episode of Electronically Yours with Martyn Ware features an incredibly talented old friend, Alan Rankine from the legendary band The Associates, which he co-founded with the brilliant Billy Mackenzie. Alan’s talent for arranging and producing (and his guitar and keyboard skills) helped to create 3 of the greatest albums of the post punk age – The Affectionate Punch, Fourth Drawer Down and most significantly their greatest album Sulk. Alan and Billy’s mutual love, humour and respect was evident for all to see. After they split in 1982, Alan went on to become a highly successful producer and composer of many solo projects, up to the current day. Ladies and Gentlemen – the Associate himself, Alan Rankine… If you can, please support the Electronically Yours podcast via my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/electronicallyours
