This week's #ThursdayFiveList theme is #TheFavFiveBand.

Of course, there are lots of great musicians in many different genres, but since you cannot include all of them, I only listed the first five favorite rhythm & blues players that I came up with:

Mickey Baker - guitar

James Jamerson - bass

Al Jackson Jr. - drums

Paul Griffin - piano

King Curtis - saxophone

This might have been a pretty good band!

Watching Willie Hall Keep Time at Rosa’s Lounge

On set break he sips a long island iced tea & tells me the house kit sounds like shit & that the last time he was here was half-a-century back to film Blues Brother s, & how each morning for those six weeks he woke with the stunt crew & rosy-fingered dawn to watch the wrecks get made— & here he is,…

Just The One (I've Been Looking For), by Johnnie Taylor

Otis Redding, The Dock Of The Bay, 1968 on Volt.

This was the first posthumous release after Redding died in 1967, and his seventh studio album. It collected some singles, b-sides, and previously released tracks, including the title track “(Sittin’ On) The Doc of the Bay” which was cowritten by Steve Cropper and Redding. Also has a great version of “Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down And Out.”

The band here includes Booker T. Jones, Isaac Hayes, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, and Al Jackson Jr. Carla Thomas joins on “Tramp.”

My copy is a 1968 pressing via Electric Fetus in Minneapolis MN – it’s in great shape.

The record featured musicians #DonaldDuckDunn on bass guitar, #AlJacksonJr on drums and #StephenStills on guitar. String arrangements were done by Booker T. Jones. The song was recorded in Los Angeles, with overdubs in #Memphis by engineer #TerryManning. The song was released as a single in 1971, becoming a breakthrough hit for Withers.

Sipping a little bourbon while dinner digests and listening to "In The Christmas Spirit" by Booker T & the MG's...one of my all time favorite albums this time of year. I'll be listening to that one all through Epiphany... 😉 #Christmas #Weihnachten #Music #Musik #soul #RandB #Stax #BookerTJones #SteveCropper #DonaldDuckDunn #AlJacksonJr
