Part 10
Ako

Something really special is the 47 Ronin Animatronic Mechanical Clock in Ako.
Sadly I was on the wrong side of the road, for filming 2 times, when it was doing its magic (every full hour).

Short:
It opens its top and front and present and also tells the story of the 47 ronin!

Found a proper front view video!

Part 9
Ako

For the "original" garden you have to pay extra as it is part of the 47 ronin museum.
It consists out of 4 building with statues, swords, etc.
Nothing in English there, so you have to understand Japanese or spend a lot of time with a translation app ;)

Part 7
Ako

I think the main reason why people will come to Ako, will be the Oishi shrine which worships the 47 ronin.

They have at least on statue for each ronin.
And the full size once stay guard at the entrance!

Part 6
Ako

Not on place number one but super quiet as there are no foreign tourists (except me but I am not noisy I promise!).

The garden on the other hand is nicely rebuild and a little beauty.

Part 4
Ako

The buildings inside are presented as a "top view".
So you can "walk" through the buildings an rooms...

You can see where the pipes and walls have been and the white tell you which room it was.

But to be honest, somehow that didn't work out for me...

Interresting? - Yes
Nice to see / watch? - No

Part 3
Ako

Sadly the castle was demolished by the Meiji government but it is some parts like the Honmaru Garden and the Ni-no-Maru Gardens have been restored to an approximation of their appearance in the Edo period.

Part 2
Ako

Ako is a small (Population ~ 46.000) town but everyone has heard if what happend there.
Maybe you read it or saw a movie.

The revenge of the 47 rōnin aka the Akō incident or Akō vendetta, was a historical event in Japan in which a band of rōnin avenged the death of their former master on 31 January 1703. It is among the three major vengeance incidents in Japan, along with the Revenge of the Soga Brothers and the Igagoe vendetta.

Today there are new manhole covers, this time from Ako.

But why is there a Samurai / Ronin on it?
- Ako is the city in a story that I think everyone knows: 47 Ronin
- On the manwhole cover you can see Oishi Kuranosuke, a prominent figure in the local history of the 47 Ronin.
- The written text / kanji reads as 消火栓" (shōkasen), which simply means fire hydrant.
