Airbnb, Vrbo regulations face delays as Houston City Council debates details of short-term rental ordinance

The proposed ordinance would require short-term rentals to register with the city, and it would allow the city to revoke registration if renters commit certain crimes. Some city council members want to also limit the density of short-term rentals and make it easier to revoke registration at multifamily properties with multiple violations.

Houston is considering imposing regulations on the short-term rental market. “Those expecting City Council to ban STRs are going to be disappointed. ... Those who want us to leave STRs alone will be disappointed as well."

City of Houston considers regulations for Airbnb, Vrbo, other short-term rentals

The proposed rules would require registration of all short-term rentals, mandate the posting of emergency information inside units and impose fees for violations. The ordinance would be less stringent than those passed in other Texas cities.
