For those of us with chronic breathing impairment, this is one of the most important days of the year. While those who assume they're unaffected by air pollution accept business as usual, we realize that all our lungs and brains are harmed every day we breath fouled air.

Air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to the health of the planet and its people. It causes approximately seven million premature deaths annually and countless illnesses. Air pollution also accelerates climate change, causes economic losses, and reduces agricultural productivity.

The United Nations General Assembly designated the first International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, also known as World Clean Air Day, in 2019. Its 6th annual observance will be on September 7, 2025
