Today was asked to do an embu in #AikiToho / #NishioRyu #iaido in front of the whole #Lebudo class (including beginners). Lebudo does #ZNKR iaido as well as an offshoot of #SuioRyu. So a lot rested on my performance — the reputation of a whole school!

Well, it wasn’t perfect. A few of the cut lines were off and the movement was obviously a bit tense. But I got a lot of interesting questions.

I’d love to see how the experienced folks there would manage those kata :)

Is there anyone who does #iaido or #koryu #kenjutsu who would recognise the chiburi from this kata (#AikiToho by #aikido sensei #Nishio)?

I’m not sure how well the hive mind on Mastodon will work but I’ve been looking for the answer for some time. Some charts list it as a chiburi from #SuioRyu while others don’t. High ranking people from Suio Ryu didn’t recognise it. A practitioner of Aiki Toho stated error in table. But I haven’t been able to link to any other school.

We had a wonderful session of #AikiToho today — the #iaido form developed by #Nishio sensei that was created to tie into #aikido. Courtesy of #MikkoSuikki, one of the last people in Finland who can teach it. I recommend it for anyone keen on aikido and/or the use of a katana.
