Saw a post on tumblr about someone saying "ai shouldn't be allowed in fandom spaces because it cannot be a fan of anything, hence create any real opinion or inspired art."
And there were some people who agreed like "yeah that's reasonable", but i am baffled by the amount of people who go around saying "expecting fans to create content for your work is equivalent to slavery.", "fans steal the ideas of the original author / fandom, so ai doing it is fine." And "well ai is just a tool, and until we figure out a way around the art theft and environmental impacts we should use it."
Nov 03, 2025 11:42 AM GMT -3 The issue is now fixed, prior to the v4.5 release: https://bolha.one/@cadusilva/115485894602339715 ----- Nov 03, 2025 06:35 AM GMT -3 One of the devs replied to the discussion I started in the Mastodon repo: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/discussions/36685#discussioncomment-14856034 Original post: ----- Mastodon 4.5 is set to launch this week and there's something you should know: All you need to quote a toot on Mastodon is to paste the link of said toot. Or, of course, you can use the boost button and select "Quote". But pasting a link also works, automatically. If the author is on Mastodon and allows quotes, the toot will appear in the compose field but can be detached. If not, it'll be just a simple, plain link. In the end, both paths lead to the same destination: to quote a toot. And, if the author allows quotes, this will generate a notification to them. So it's important to know that this also works with private mentions, aka DMs. Even if you don't mention the author's profile ([email protected]), if you simply paste a link to their post, and they allow quotes, they will be notified. If they don't allow quotes, it'll be just a simple and plain link, and no notification will be sent to them. So be careful not to end up mentioning someone in a DM without the intention of doing so. They'll be able to see the DM content where the link was pasted, as if you'd have mentioned them explicitly. But it was just a quoted toot. Let's see what they say about this: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/discussions/36685 #Mastodon #MastoAdmin #QuoteToots
