#agedcareaustralia someone asked me “what do people do when the older person has no assets but needs care?” I replied “they take them to an emergency department, leave them at the entrance door. Then they drive away and change all their contact details.” Nervous laughter. They thought I was joking. This is exactly what they do.

I hear that #AgedCareAustralia is worse than #AgedCareUSA.

One instance of the corruption and corrosion:
Elderly resident seeks outlet for his #Sexuality.
(Company has policy about this, but it hasn't implemented it.)
Facility gets medic to prescribe testosterone blocker.
Doesn't raise issue with the resident's wife.

Blocker acted as chemical straight jacket, stupefying and enfeebling the resident.

Attended the "Small Towns, Big Difference" Forum in Charlton today run by the Mallee Regional Partnership. Some amazing stories from some amazing people demonstrating what can be done by small communities. Focus in my town, Wedderburn, is aged care, but it seems to be an area full of mines. Why is it that our aged care nationally is in total disarray and no political will to address it? #project #community #agedcareaustralia #agedcare
