Le opzioni a cui sta pensando l’amministrazione di Donald Trump sono due: o tornare a casa a una vita sotto il dominio dei talebani e l’invio in Congo, un Paese che sta affrontando una delle peggiori crisi umanitarie al mondo. Dopo aver sospeso il programma americano di reinsediamento per gli afghani che avevano sostenuto lo sforzo bellico Usa, il capo della Casa Bianca è in trattative per inviarne fino a 1.100 nella Repubblica democratica del Congo, inclusi 400 bambini. Una destinazione tra le più infauste sul pianeta.
Secondo il New York Times, il gruppo comprende interpreti per le forze armate statunitensi, ex membri delle forze per le operazioni speciali afghane e familiari di militari americani. Gli afghani vivono in un limbo in Qatar da più di un anno, dopo essere stati evacuati dagli Stati Uniti per la loro sicurezza in quanto avevano sostenuto le forze americane durante la guerra contro i talebani, iniziata nel 2001.
Shawn VanDiver, presidente del gruppo umanitario AfghanEvac, ha riferito di essere stato informato del piano relativo al Congo da funzionari del Dipartimento di Stato, aggiungendo che agli afghani sarebbe offerta anche la possibilità di tornare a casa. In un regime che, sapendo che hanno collaborato con le forze Usa, non gli lascerebbe via di scampo.

The options being considered by the Donald Trump administration are two: to return home to a life under the dominion of the Taliban and the sending to the Congo, a country facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. After suspending the American resettlement program for Afghans who had supported the US military effort, the head of the White House is in negotiations to send up to 1,100 of them to the Democratic Republic of Congo, including 400 children. One of the most infamous destinations on the planet.

According to the New York Times, the group includes interpreters for US armed forces, former members of Afghan special operations forces, and families of American military personnel. The Afghans live in limbo in Qatar for more than a year, after being evacuated by the United States for their safety as they had supported American forces during the war against the Taliban, which began in 2001.

Shawn VanDiver, president of the humanitarian group AfghanEvac, reported being informed of the plan for the Congo by State Department officials, adding that Afghans would also be offered the opportunity to return home. In a regime that, knowing they had collaborated with US forces, would leave them with no escape.

Joining this statement I’m deeply concerned for millions of #Afghans living in #Iran marginalized and without legal status or community support - including single women. De-escalation and accountability are priorities. This war is not the answer, it merely worsens the problems.
