Supporting #Afghan women is central to IMS’ work, using media as a tool to enable women in different areas of life and ensure that there is a platform for their stories to be heard.

This year, CPH:DOX presented two powerful documentaries highlighting Afghan women’s voices and their stories. The Secret Reading Club of Kabul won the NORDIC:DOX Award. Meanwhile, the IMS-supported #documentaryfilm, A Fox Under a Pink Moon, previously won the main prize at IDFA, was also screened at CPH:DOX.

Following the screenings, IMS hosted panel discussions across Denmark with the filmmakers and key stakeholders to increase the engagement between audiences and #documentary filmmakers.

Documentaries can do something special: they can make us more aware of the world, give room to voices we rarely hear and illustrate issues that often drown in the mainstream news stream. In societies where human rights are under pressure, documentaries can sometimes escape censorship and bring to light stories that are rarely told: about everyday life, power and social dynamics. These Afghan documentaries are examples of just that.

A comunicarlo è stata l’Ice (U.S.

A 19-year-old Mexican man dies in an immigration detention center run by ICE: it is the 46th case during the Trump era.

A 19-year-old Mexican man died in a county jail in Florida used for the detention of immigrants. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced this, stating that the death of Royer Perez-Jimenez occurred due to “suicide.” The official cause is still under investigation, but what is certain is that the 19-year-old is the 46th death among ICE detainees since Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025. The count was conducted by the Associated Press: the young Mexican is also the youngest victim of the 46. Since the beginning of 2026, 13 immigrants have died while in ICE custody.

This is the second case in a week, after the death of an Afghan immigrant in a detention center in Dallas: ICE had stated that the man had been in custody for one day and that the cause of death was due to a sudden illness related to the man’s previous health problems. The Afghan immigrant detained had also served with U.S. Special Forces in the east of Afghanistan, on the border with Pakistan. Deaths that continue to confirm the terrible management of ICE detention centers: on January 3rd, a 55-year-old Cuban man died, apparently due to a sudden illness, at Camp East Montana in Texas. An employee of the El Paso Medical Examiner’s Office delivered an audio to the victim’s daughter in which he attributed the cause of death to “asphyxiation due to the compression of the neck and chest.”

Afghanistan, Pakistan attacks a hospital in Kabul: 400 dead

Afghanistan claims that 400 people were killed in a Pakistani attack on a Kabul hospital. The government says the death toll has reached 400 so far, while Islamabad denies targeting a drug rehabilitation center. The attack was attributed by Afghan authorities to the Pakistani army. The Afghan government’s deputy spokesman, Hamdullah Fitrat, explained that 250 people were also injured. He added that most of the dead and injured were patients being treated at the facility.

Pakistan has stated that it “accurately struck military installations and terrorist support infrastructure,” rejecting accusations of hitting a civilian target. Pakistan is targeting Taliban hideouts. At the time of the attack, there were 3,000 patients at the state-run Omid hospital. Local television stations broadcast footage of firefighters battling the flames amid the rubble of a building. “The entire building caught fire. It seemed like the end of the world,” said Ahmad, 50, a hospital security guard. Of the 25 people staying in the staff dormitory, he was the only survivor.
