A rat study has found that moderate aerobic exercise leads to remodeling of stellate ganglia in the neck and upper chest--part of the autonomic nervous system that regulates heart activity. Ganglia on left and right sides of the body underwent different changes in number, size, and volume.

If time travel were real, I’d organize a Mastodon field trip to the The 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobic Championship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIfAkOBMf5A

Isn’t it great? It makes me want to learn some of those moves.

(I know I shared this on other social media sites years ago, but I don’t think I’ve shared it here yet. It lives on in my imagination and I wish I could have been there).

What kindness have you received this week?

I was dashing along to my aerobics class, late as usual, and the teacher stopped to give me a lift (she lives 2 minutes from the venue and had had to pop up to pick up something she’d forgotten).

Increased aerobic fitness in adolescent athletes is linked to poorly understood abnormal cardiovascular changes

Adolescent athletes' cardiovascular system may adapt to increased cardiorespiratory fitness by increasing blood pressure, arterial stiffness and heart growth, a new study shows. The study was conducted in collaboration between the Technical University of Munich and the University of Eastern Finland, and the results were published in the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology.

Twelve weeks of high-intensity functional training (HIFT; resistance, aerobic, balance, and functional movement) improves cognitive, physical, and quality-of-life conditions in older adults (65 and older) with mild cognitive impairment. Two sessions per week were as effective as four sessions per week.
