@edd when my kid was about 5 years old, I started to play a free form #ttrpg with him (at some point, we put the super light rules into a one page zine… alas it’s in German). It‘s called #AdvancedSchnickSchnackSchnuck
Basically you simply use Rock-paper-scissors for task resolution. If characters are particularly good in something, they may „re-roll“, i.e. try again. Works really well with 4-7 yrs old goblins. The rock-paper-scissors part keeps them engaged.

My year in gaming (mostly short online sessions).

@vdonnut @DuskwoodZero I co-designed a small #ttrpg with @janpmueller called #AdvancedSchnickSchnackSchnuck 🙃 (zine format, one pager). Also read Hero Kids, browsed through No Thank you Evil and played #Mausritter …okay the latter is not really a game (just for) kids. But I think, all it takes is some basic old school dnd with tuned down lethality. I play #BECMI with my kid, works great!
@Jensenator @doenerspiess
ja - der liebt das, aber öfter spielen wir die Eigenkreation von mir und @janpmueller : #AdvancedSchnickSchnackSchnuck 🙃
Whenever, the special talent comes up, kid has two attempts instead of one to beat me in rock, paper, scissors. Sometimes we also use tokens for tracking hitpoints or extra attempts. It‘s fun, because you can play #AdvancedSchnickSchnackSchnuck during long walks etc. Kid says that using rock, paper, scissors is as much fun as using dice. #ttrpgsForKids 2/2
I like to play #ttrpgs with my kid (8). #MausRitter is always an option, but usually we simply play what I refer to as #AdvancedSchnickSchnackSchnuck (Schnick Schnack Schnuck = Rock, Paper, Scissors). If a task can go wrong (jumping over a chasm, dodging), we decide the outcome by playing rock, paper, scissors. Before starting the game, my kid creates his character by defining one or two things his character is particularly good at (spellcasting, hiding, you name it). 1/2
