Decided to watch a movie from Criterion’s pre-code collection. I picked Forbidden because it’s got Adolphe Menjou, who I always enjoy.

It’s scandalous, young woman meets a dashing man on vacation. After they get back she learns he’s actually married. Cut to a few years later and she’s raising her daughter alone.

This is why 30s movies are interesting. The code stifled creativity for decades after.
