If anyone can recommend a good non-POS video editor on iOS (that isn't CapCut, I don't enjoy working in that app) I would be very much in your debt.

Adobe is Adding Rush and PS Express to its Photography Plan for Free

Starting next week, Adobe will be adding Adobe Premiere Rush and Adobe Photoshop Express into the Creative Cloud for Photography plan at no extra cost.

Adobe Premiere Rush enables quick and simple video editing and fast sharing and is available on both iOS and Android as well as desktop devices. Adobe Photoshop Express is a simple image editing and collage-making tool and is available on both iOS and Android devices. Both are considered to be entry-level at best, although Rush was originally billed as much more.

Rush was launched in October of 2018 and felt like the video equivalent of the new Adobe Lightroom: while significantly underpowered when compared to Lightroom Classic, it was built on a better software code base that could be more easily updated and would work across different platforms more seamlessly. At launch, Rush did not have nearly the editing capabilities of Premiere Pro, but the future looked bright. At the same time, Adobe killed off the much-maligned Premiere Clip.

But now four years later, Rush doesn't quite feel as though it has quite lived up to those original expectations. Updates have come -- including support for Apple M1 devices launched earlier this year -- but have been slow and not particularly meaningful. The platform is no doubt more approachable to use, but still very underpowered. Rush is no doubt an improvement over Clip though, and details on how to get the most out of the program can be found on Adobe's website.

Photoshop Express, or PS Express as it is also known, is a mobile app designed to make quick and easy edits to photos. Much like Rush, it's not particularly robust and doesn't hold a candle to what can be done in full-fledged Photoshop, but user can apply instant filters -- called Looks -- and choose from an array of adjustment and correction options to touch up photos before quickly share them on social media. Full details on how to take advantage of PS Express can be found on Adobe's website.

Adobe's choice to include both Rush and PS Express in the Photography Plan for free feels less like generosity and more like the latest effort to increase the number of users on each platform. Neither PS Express nor Rush have made significant waves in the creative community and Adobe likely attributes that to a lack of access. It remains to be seen if making the programs free to photographers will have any meaningful effect on their usage.

The Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan starts at $10 per month.

Adobe Rush Gets Apple M1 Support, Premiere Pro Gets Speed Boost

Adobe has announced a release of new features and performance updates for its video editing apps Premiere Pro and Premiere Rush which are available for Adobe Creative Cloud users starting today.

Premiere Rush

Premiere Rush is a free mobile and desktop video editing app that focuses on editing quick and engaging content for social media, and features a more simple tool kit and interface than Premiere Pro. The free version allows up to 3 exports or you can subscribe monthly for unlimited exports and gain access to more features, content, and project syncing across mobile and desktop devices with 100GB cloud storage, which can be further upgraded to 10TB.

When Rush was launched in 2018, it allowed users to click and drag various transitions, graphics, and titles over video clips using pre-built templates. Premiere Rush also offered manual or preset color correction, audio import -- including voiceovers -- and eventually added video speed adjustments. Finished videos can be exported to fit the aspect ratio of different social media channels.

This latest update has added Premiere Rush support for Apple M1 computers. Adobe claims that the update improves performance for playback, editing, and gives faster export speed, and supports all commonly used video and image file formats. As always, project syncing allows users to work on their projects across different platforms, whether that is using Apple Intel, Windows, iOS, Android, or the new Apple M1 systems.

Premiere Rush has extended its mobile support to now also include Samsung Note 20 and Samsung Note 20 Ultra smartphones.

Along with expanded mobile support, Rush receives what the company is calling a Timeline Context Menu. With just a tap on the video clip, iOS users can now enable the context menu which allows to split, duplicate, or delete a clip. Similarly, with a tap, you can separate the audio clip from the video. On both iOS and Android devices, a function has been added to reset Color, Audio, and Transforms adjustments, while on the desktop the reset function will reset all color adjustments.

Premiere Pro

In the latest Premiere Pro 15.1 update, H.264/HEVS encode performance on Windows (Intel) has been improved. Using Intel Quick Sync hardware acceleration, Adobe claims that the latest version is up to 1.8 times faster than the earlier Premiere Pro 14.0, demonstrated in the table below.

Furthermore, Lumetri presets now display a frame from the current sequence when browsing different options for color grading. Also, thumbnails for Lumetri presets in the Effects panel dynamically update, providing a preview of the preset for easier and quicker color grading selection.

Disappointingly, Premiere Pro is not receiving an update to make it natively compatible with Apple M1 computers despite Rush receiving that update today and Photoshop receiving full support last month.

All updates on both apps are available starting today and you can see different Premiere Rush and Premiere Pro subscription plans on the Adobe Creative Cloud website.
