L’autrice d’Americanah revient à la fiction avec une fresque de plus de 600 pages autour de quatre femmes africaines dont les trajectoires se croisent entre Afrique et États-Unis. Sororité, injonctions sociales et rêves contrariés structurent ce récit choral très attendu en librairie.
“In the end, it’s that some people have decided to look at Palestinians as somehow not fully human because if you think of Palestinians as fully human you cannot find excuses for this kind of mass murder,” she said.
Adichie added that as a storyteller, it’s important for people to read about Palestinian lives and remember that what’s going on is not “normal.”

The Nigerian writer says it is unbelievable that governments around the world are doing nothing about the mass murder in Gaza.
“I think the idea of collective punishment is dehumanising. You cannot hold a whole group of people responsible for the actions of certain members of their community,” Adichie told Al Jazeera.
I was listening to Chimamanda Ngozi #Adichie on #BBC World Service today on the topic of free speech. Some thoughts contrary to my bubble, I'd like to see where they go:
1) By and large #Twitter shouldn't shut down accounts unless they spew outright spam or criminal content. It's an open forum, for better or for worse. I'm not sure what the unbanned accounts were, but even conspiracy nuts should be allowed their voice (after all historically some nuts turned out correct).

Acabo de leer el #libro #Americanah (de Chimamanda Ngozi #Adichie, la de "Todos deberíamos ser #feministas", "Querida Ijeawele. Cómo educar en el #feminismo" y "El peligro de la historia única"). Precisamente esas eran las tres obras que había leído de ellas: las tres brillantes y brevísimas, y las tres de no-ficción. (¡Leedlas!)
Adichie como novelista me ha impresionado y admirado, pero me gusta (aún) más como ensayista. En Americanah, de hecho, intercala multitud de mini-ensayos en forma de entradas de blog que escribe Ifemelu, la protagonista, sobre ser #negro en Estados Unidos (incluidas las diferencias entre los inmigrantes y los descendientes de esclavos, y sobre cómo es al llegar a #América desde #África cuando empiezas a ser negro). Un poco a través de estos ensayos, y bastante a través de la historia, Adichie nos ayuda a aprender sobre #Nigeria, sobre Estados Unidos, y sobre la vida de #migrantes racializades, no solo en América sino también en Europa.
Otra mini-#reseña de #libro: "Sobre el peligro de los tópicos" de #Chimamanda #Ngozi #Adichie. (realmente describe mejor el contenido el otro título: "el peligro de la historia única").
Muy recomendable: corto, fácil de leer, y con un mensaje importante. Aporta un punto de vista que a mí al menos me resultó novedoso sobre #tópicos y #prejuicios, desde el punto de vista de las #historias. Quién cuenta las historias y cómo modelan nuestro punto de vista sobre la gente, y especialmente sobre la gente de la que se cuentan pocas historias, o poco variadas. Según Adichie el problema de los tópicos no es tanto que sean falsos como que son incompletos, y eso deshumaniza a las personas e imposibilita relaciones humanas reales.
