Gigi Cagni vs. Adani: “They know less and talk more. And you know that we’re paying for it.”

Daniele Adani versus Gigi Cagni, then the response. The former Serie A coach was brought up by the former defender, now a Rai telecaster and commentator, as an example not exactly virtuous of Italian mentality, very defensive, in a broader discussion about Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup: “Today, I’m sorry to tell you, but there are still many Cagni, many coaches like Cagni,” Adani said in the last episode of Viva El Futbol, speaking with Nicola Ventola and Antonio Cassano. The three – during the streaming broadcast – consistently emphasize the importance of beautiful play, often praising coaches like Fabregas, Gasperini, De Zerbi, and others who try to offer more offensive and audacious football.

An immediate and quite pointed response came from Cagni, who coached Adani at Empoli for two years: “Did you hear what Adani said? Really too good,” Cagni said, laughing in a video posted on his Instagram profile, “Football is beautiful for this reason: those who know the least speak the most. You think we pay for it, I pay it too, because it’s on Rai. You think.”

Then Cagni presents an example he considers emblematic for defending his style of play, always with a quite sarcastic smile regarding Adani’s words. The protagonist? None other than Adani himself. “Now I’ll show you a clip where I managed to get him into the opponent’s area. Think how defensive-minded I was, and how old-fashioned I was tactically,” he continued, “Let them talk, because that’s what we have to do.”

After showing the clip in question, Cagni attacked again: “Since he was one of the architects of those who promoted tiki-taka, which led to the crisis in Italian football. We have to accept that. However, I’m happy, because if these are the ones who understand football, then I’m still perfectly calm.”

@Theorem_Poem Agreed — Indian citizens aren't seeing any benefit from this either. This isn't about India or its people; it's about Adani Group using debt structures to shift Australian profits back to the parent company in India as repayments, avoiding tax here while paying some to India's government.
Article shows $1.27B revenue in Aus → $0 tax paid locally, but taxes flow to India (~$40M from Aus ops recently). Profits stay with the company, not trickling down to ordinary Indians or funding Aussie services. The issue is corporate tax avoidance across borders, not nations or peoples. Blame the loopholes and execs, not countries.

Oh look, another banner year for Adani's Carmichael miracle! $1.27 BILLION in revenue shovelled out of Queensland's dirt in FY25. Australian corporate tax contributed? A generous $0.00. Because, naturally, all those 'profits' are magically transformed into 'debt repayments' to the mothership in India. Who needs taxable income when you've got creative accounting that would make a magician blush?
Meanwhile, Queensland's LNP government just gifted them another royalty deferral sweetheart deal — because why collect what the public is owed when you can defer it indefinitely and call it 'investment boost'? Hundreds of millions potentially shortchanged on royalties (experts reckon up to $625M over a few years if they weren't flogging coal at suspiciously low prices to related parties). But hey, Adani promises it'll all pay back... someday... with interest. Sure. Just like that $22 billion in taxes & royalties they swore would fund our schools and hospitals forever. How's that going, by the way?
Gautam Adani loves banging on about 'transparency' in India — voluntarily sharing tax reports, setting benchmarks, the works. Here in Oz? Crickets. Ghosted harder than a bad tinder date. While the minerals council runs ads screaming 'Mining pays for medicare!', Adani's busy proving the loophole is mightier than the tax code.
Aussies pay their taxes so billionaires can play hot potato with profits across borders. Classic. Who's ready for round two of subsidising coal barons while our services crumble?

Billions in profits, silence on tax: Adani’s Australian enigma

An advertising blitz claims mining taxes help pay for our essential services but it appears we taxpayers are paying millions of dollars to help coal miner Adani make profits.
