voodoocactus's review of Deadbeat Druid (Adam Binder #3)

4/5: Dad’s on a hunting trip and hasn’t been home for a while. Very SPN, this one. We have brothers on a rescue mission on an old muscle car, hunting monsters and saving people, the family business. We have Death to save, Gramps on a murder spree, and Adam taking a step to the dark side. The third Adam Binder book was a bit slow to start (with the same repetition problems as book 2) but when it finally got going, it was a good ride. The overall pacing was okay with some rushing toward the end. The ending was satisfying and fit the story. That said, I have zero interest in reading the next bo...

voodoocactus's review of Trailer Park Trickster (The Adam Binder Novels Book 2)

3/5: Adam is dealing with his tangled family history and Vic is swept into the elves’ feuds and family drama, and too much is happening for them individually to deal with whatever is between them together. It felt a bit drawn out and overly complicated, pointing blinking neon arrows at the two men WHO LIKE EACH OTHER BUT WHO ARE FROM VERY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND THERE’S A LOT TO THINK ABOUT OKAY??!!11 They figured it out in the last chapters only to fall into a cliffhanger (literally), so we’ll see what happens in the last book. Just like book 1, this was super simple language–not a bad thing...

voodoocactus's review of White Trash Warlock (Adam Binder #1)

3/5: A fast-paced book, easy reading with super simple language and short chapters that gave this a YA feeling. Adam is a hot mess of daddy issues, mommy issues, brother issues, ex issues, all sorts of issues. For some reason, he reminded me a LOT of Dean Winchester. (In fact, this whole thing reads like an SPN fic. 🤔) He’s supposed to be a low-powered magic user (practically a normie) but somehow he still manages to beat all the odds. I really liked the worldbuilding, the spirit realm, and how the Guardian towers were Tarot courts and the elves were manifestations of them. I also liked how the...

@krakenapocalypse I just read the entire #AdamBinder trilogy in under a week. Loved it! Looks like I have a few more to pick up. Thanks for the recommendations!

I just read the #AdamBinder trilogy by #DavidRSlayton in under a week and I LOVED it. I appreciated how different chapters cover the same content just from different perspectives. The world building is amazing and the story almost Dresden-esque…but what I REALLY liked is the characters didn’t get to take short cuts in the end and that made it all the more satisfying. Highly recommend!
