The iconic Novation CAT modem ๐Ÿ“ž, used in the late 1970s and early 1980s. With acoustically coupled modems, you had to dial the desired number on a telephone โ˜Ž๏ธ, wait for the call to connect ๐Ÿ“ถ, and then place the handset into the rubber cups on the modem.

The Protek 1200 Modem from 1984.

It's an acoustic coupler so you just place the headset onto it, no wires.

It supports either 1200/1200 or 1200/75 which was common when this came out.

It's even battery powered taking 4 AA batteries with a supposedly battery life of 30-50 hours, so it was useful for when out and about...

This one needs some cleaning up as the foam on the ear/mic pads has started to crumble as 39 year old foam does.
