Some beautiful decorative etched glass in the entrance to an 1880s townhouse in the Hyndland area of Glasgow. I've no idea if this is original or a modern replica, but it's design is consistent with the date the building was originally constructed.

Acid-etched glass often gets overlooked in favour of the more colourful stained or painted glass, but it can be just as decorative, as this example from a townhouse door on Wilton Street in the West End of Glasgow shows. Acid etching was developed in the mid-1800s and uses hexafluorosilicic acid to etch ornate patterns into panes of glass.

I love this piece of decorative acid-etched glass on a townhouse door on Wilton Street in the West End of Glasgow. It probably dates from around the 1860s.

I can't be certain, but this looks like original acid-etched details on one of the windows of Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1860s Eton Terrace in the Hillhead area of Glasgow.

If it is original, it's pretty impressive it's survived so long. If it's not, it's a very good imitation of Thomson's style.

What I'm presuming is an original, and rather beautiful, acid-etched window design on the former Garnethill branch of the Glasgow Savings Bank on New City Road. It was created by Neil C Duff and was built in 1909.
