Welp, about a week ago, me and a buddy spent Friday and Sunday at #SonicTemple because (even with me falling deep into the #hiphop and #electronicmusic rabbit holes over the years) #metal was my first musical love. And like a ex who you still look fondly upon (and are still friends with), metal always comes back into my life at some point.
This was my first music festival since #eggcrack / starting #HRT nearly 2 years ago and I could tell I was FAR more sociable with the alt and goth women of my generation who were there in the stands and in the pit than I was at festivals I attended before I realized I'm a #transwoman (had many call me "pretty" and "beautiful"...even had a sassy mutual smooch with one of them). Even in a scene as cis-het-normative as #heavymetal , the worst I got from old men/women was a shrug that read of "I'm old. I've seen it all." instead of outright bigotry. Most hurt I got was someone accidentally stepping on my foot during a mosh pit.
And due to economic situation and the incoming shit-storm for #trans folk like myself, this will likely be the last festival I attend for a hot minute. And the next one will likely be in a genre even more accepting of #queer culture (like #punk or #EDM ).
Still, it was a good time seeing bands like #Metallica #AliceCooper #Deafheaven #AcidBath #AskingAlexandria #Sepultura #Testament #SuicidalTendencies #Beartooth and more. And getting a bit buzzed early in the day.
Time to also go easy on the wallet for a bit.
Also, these writings on my face were done with my makeup palates and my index finger. The flag idea was like "What if I made the trans flag into something like war paint?" Me writing "TRANS DYKE" on my face just felt sassy, punk rock, and cunty all at once.
