#AlteMesse #Leipzig: Der Rote Stern über dem #Achilleion, erbaut 1923-24. Einheimische nennen die ehemalige #Messehalle 9 auch Sowjetischen Pavillon. Seit Oktober 2019 befindet sich dort das Stadtarchiv.


PS: ich habe lange darüber nachgedacht, ob ich das Foto hier poste. einige Tage sogar, wegen #ukraineconflict - ich hab mich letztlich dafür entschieden, weil der Stern jetzt 100 Jahre alt ist und wahrscheinlich war die beabsichtigte Wirkung seiner Erbauer damals wie heute dieselbe: #Machtanspruch.

A share for #TravelTuesday and the small number of us who are trying to make this a thing without any sort of success. This was inspired by a photo I saw this week of #Achilleion on #Corfu and, yep, we've been there too. This was built for Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria at the end of the 19th century and the style was supposed to be that of mythical #Phaecia, final destination of #Odysseus.

🇬🇷 The terrace of Achilleion on the island of Corfu in Greece. Achilleion (Greek: Αχίλλειον) is a palace built for the Empress Elisabeth of Austria after the tragic death of her only son in 1889. The photo was taken by an unknown photographer, probably in the 19th century. Digitally enhanced to compensate for fading.
