“In Scotland and across the UK the most memorialised woman is Queen Victoria. Everywhere you go there are statues to Queen Victoria but we are not doing right by our young women and our commitment in our culture where people are recognised for who they are and what they achieve.
“I think if we’re going to spend this kind of money, why not take that £46m and put up fixed statues to women who achieved during her reign? It becomes a memorial to her reign and that has real meaning."
