International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

Today and every day we stand against any form of slavery. An estimated 50 million people around the world are trapped in modern slavery, enduring human trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation, and forced marriages.

Many vulnerable individuals, especially refugees fleeing conflict and persecution, fall prey to traffickers. Human rights organizations have exposed that refugees are routinely bought and sold by violent networks within Libya, with strong ties to the so-called Libyan coastguard.

It’s time for the #EU to end its support of armed Libyan militias and put human rights first. #Libya is not a safe country.

Human rights for all. End Slavery now!
