I’m increasingly convinced that even if #SchwarzeWacht is not perfect, it still wipes the floor with #Abercrombie's #TheDevils. I’ve rarely come across such a rubbish book, even for #fantasy. I'm really glad that #SchwarzeWacht keeps catching me off guard & surprising me – without any pseudo-humour!

I never thought I'd be celebrating a German #historical #fantasy novel, but #SchwarzeWacht / #BlackWatch (?) by #RichardSchwartz offers an exciting plot, nice characters & an atmospheric narrative – without any childish silliness. It wipes the floor with #Abercrombie's #TheDevils – so far! #booksky

I was really looking forward to #Abercrombie's #TheDevils, the premise with the Princess Journey through a run-down, fantastical Europe sounded promising. Unfortunately, the book features silly cliche characters, adolescent faecal humour in the style of the unspeakable #CriticalRole series. #booksky
