Inside an old abandoned Irish hospital lies a collection of old medical machines. This one is a hyperbaric chamber, developed in the 1960s.
This Vickers Hyperbaric Oxygen Bed System was designed to provide patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). This was used to treat decompression sickness in scuba divers (the "bends"), carbon monoxide poisoning and other ailments.
The system was phased out of use in UK hospitals in the 1990s.
