Day 26: most disappointing of 2024
I pick 2
#DoctorSlump and #AVirtuousBusiness. Both had good premises but I was bored after a few eps.
So I gave up on #AVirtuousBusiness as it just couldn't hold my interest. (It may just be me but I don't think that a romance was needed in the drama)
Instead I dove head first into #MrPlankton . This was stellar and 10 eps was the right amount screen time for this roller coaster journey. I should have expected nothing less than goodness from the writer behind IOTNBO and Jugglers.
Luckily I have a cold so I already had tissues on hand for the bittersweet and heart rending. ending. This drama is definitely going in my top 10 of 2024 list.

A Virtuous Business
(2024 - Netflix 12 1:30 eps)
Set in a small town in the early 90s, 4 women begin selling adult products. The money, & the breaking of taboos bring empowerment & friendship. For side stories, there is a mystery, some crime & romance.
Great acting, with period-appropriate costuming, sets, & props. The 4 FLs are struggling because of the men in their lives. We see how women are defined by their relationships with men & how difficult it is to have a sense of themselves because society refuses to acknowledge them as independent people.
The pacing is great, with a lot of marvelous comedy, touching moments, & friendship development. The last 1/2 of the last episode was slightly disappointing - not bad, & it wasn't that the story went astray - a different wrap-up would have been more appropriate.

Kim Sun-young in " A Virtuous Business"
Favorite for me in this drama ,while no complaints about the rest.
Kim is often in supporting roles, sometimes only a few episodes.
While seeing her in a promotion-photo or trailer is reason for me to watch it.
Knowing she will put the salt&pepper in it !
This time on a better position. not as lead but pretty close. π
So I completely forgot to post about this here after watching the last two episodes.
Is Oh Geum-hee really Kim Do-hyun's biological mother? Or is this just a red herring... though we got only 2 episodes left, so anything else would feel very rushed. I can't remember any reference of her being religious, so the wooden rosary ring the person who brought him to the orphanage isn't probably hers.
"A Virtuous Business " ep1
What a nice reminder of my own youth, starting 50's !
Like Reply 1988.
I grew up with 3 sisters +1 brother. Hearing jokes and chats I was not supposed to hear, but did.
Understanding better when puberty came upon me.
TV-programs and magazines a bit more liberal coming into the house.
Society shocked !
Kdrama never gets that explicit in fact, keeping up the humor and vibe.
Specially with this cast :)

It's darling so far. The friendship developing among the women is wonderful to watch.
I wouldn't say any one thing stands out, but it's well put together & enjoyable. The mystery is finally, in the last couple of episodes, starting to get interesting.
Time spent doing things other than watching dramas has meant that I have not watched past ep 2.
I thought it started off well. Not sure if I should keep going. How are folks feeling about this one?
The chairmanβs wife/landlady in #AVirtuousBusiness is such a perfect petty antagonist, and also a walking early 90s fashion crime. A very *expensive* fashion crime.
