What if a classical computer and a quantum computer got talking? This reading is Better, Faster, Stronger, Lonelier by Alvaro Buendia, a PhD student in Nanophotonics in Madrid, Spain. The quantum concepts are computing and wavefunction. If an artificial intelligence in a quantum computer approaches a human-like self-awareness, will it also suffer human emotions like loneliness? rjb

At 44%, I am calling #DidNoFinish on Ancillary Justice. It's very dense and slow-moving Sci-Fi that does not work in #audiobook form.

The narration jumps around in time without any time indications, so you have to guess how the timeline lines up, or read with a guide.

The narrator "doing voices" for some characters is a big turn-off for me, compounded by her slow enunciation of the agonizingly-long character names.

Finished #audiobook Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie. How had I not heard of this author before the past year when I first heard of The Devils (it was fantastic btw). This one is #2 in The First Law #fantasy series. The stories are great with many interesting characters, intrigue, action, and in-depth world building but I also want to mention narrator Steven Pacey is amazing. In looking up his name I saw that a lot of people online have raved about his talent with these books. He truly brings the characters to life. ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ #bookstodon

I'm hugely appreciative of free #audiobook access through my library card, especially when battling chronic illness.

My card auto-expired on Sunday just as I was about to download an old Agatha Christie favourite on Borrowbox. I thought I'd have to go in person to renew it, difficult as my nearest library is unstaffed after working hours. I phoned on the off-chance this lunchtime and a lovely staff member restored my access in 2 minutes flat.

Thank you Nick and #Brighton & #Hove #libraries! 🎧✨

🇬🇧 I started reading the book because I love the movie — but in the end, I think I loved the novel even more.
The characters are far richer and more complex on the page. We follow them over more than two years, watching them grow and evolve in the turbulent America of the 1960s, shaped by civil rights struggles, Martin Luther King’s speeches, and the shock of Kennedy’s assassination.
The relationships have time to deepen or fall apart, and some moments moved me much more than in the film. Miss Skeeter’s breakup, for instance, feels gentler and more nuanced, and the aftermath of the book’s publication is explored with gripping tension.
My only downside: Minny’s attitude toward Miss Celia felt harsher than in the movie.
Still, whether on screen or on the page, this story is powerful, one I could reread, rewatch, or relisten to endlessly.
