Torrance hospital revolutionizes hip surgery with augmented reality in the operating room

Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance is the first California hospital to use augmented reality in the operating room. Using a mixed reality navigation system called HipInsight, surgeons can see a hologram of a patient's pelvis and bones, allowing for smaller incisions, faster recovery, and less blood loss during hip replacement surgery. This technology is just the beginning as it has the potential to be expanded to other areas of medicine.

Xreal's $399 Air 2 augmented reality glasses are now available to pre-order

Xreal, formerly known as Nreal, has released the Air 2 AR glasses in Europe and the US, featuring improved displays and comfort. The glasses promise a big screen experience and use Sony's latest Micro-OLED display. The Air 2 is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor, offering improved comfort. Additionally, Xreal unveiled the Air 2 Pro with electrochromic dimming, allowing users to choose their level of immersion. However, the glasses are quite expensive, starting at $399, and require an accessory called Xreal Beam for full functionality. Shipping is set to begin in November 2023.
