#PromptEngineering #ARPANET 🧠✨

"The first two-network TCP/IP transmission was between the [Packet Radio Van] and ARPANET on August 27, 1976; the van was parked next to Rossotti's (since 1956, officially the "Alpine Inn"), a well-known Portola Valley, California biker bar, and wires were run to one of the picnic tables."

Retrópolis - A cidade dos clássicos

@carlmalamud we have never met - but I wanted to say I was listening yesterday to the Geek of the Week conversation https://town.hall.org/radio/Geek/092993_geek_ITR.html with Robert Braden. as I was trying to figure out how #ARPANET worked on System/360 computers.

Thank you!

@larsbrinkhoff

Thank you! I have watched the Youtube video, nice summary and easy to follow.

I was wondering if there is #MVT implementation available somewhere, as 360/75 was the third #arpanet node at UCSB.

https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/ADA155057.pdf has a very interesting summary how NCP and then TCP were done on the mainframe later at UCLA

It was based on ICT (a multiprocessing supervisor) and The Exchange (some form of IPC).

Any chances to find the docs and the implementations running back then?

A reconstruction of the ARPAnet by @larsbrinkhoff running some of the original PDP10 OSes and an IMP simulator. Fascinating!

Excellent book: "The Dream Machine - J.C.R. Licklider and the Revolution That Made Computing Personal" by Waldrop (2001)

Both an excellent biography of Licklider and a history of the key people and technologies, especially the Arpanet, that got us to today.
