I wrote somewhere else on this site that the #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds story of #ChristopherPike had a messianic quality to it, and by that I meant he was being depicted as a great influential leader who was going to sacrifice himself (and in a most punishing manner) for the good of the rest of the timeline.

If on Talos 4, Pike somehow "ascends" with the Talosians and Vina, that metaphor would be even more complete.๐Ÿค”

Now that I've typed that๐Ÿ‘†, I rather like the inherent chicken before the egg #paradox of Pike's situation.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘

I didn't think reinterpretting Shatner would be this difficult. At least Chris Pine was doing a younger version, but I happened to see #AQualityOfMercy and #BalanceOfTerror a day apart and it felt wildly discordant. Maybe I'll get used to it.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Pike knows his fate, and because of that he's told Una, and probably altered his behavior in a bunch of slight ways that are impacting events. Are all of those decisions basically putting him on that path to the accident, or is he already changing things around him and disrupting the timeline?

Pike doesn't even have to reveal what he knows, but is his mere darker mood with, say, Captain Batel in episode 1 changing the timeline?

I think it was sorta poetic injustice that Spock ended up mutilated instead of Pike when Pike tried to avoid his future, but it can't be that time or fate requires SOMEONE get mutilated, that would be absurd!

I dunno where the writers are going with this. Maybe it is a straightforward as that.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

We get a hint of what happens to her eventually in this episode. I am curious to see if Pike now prepared for this can stop it from happening, thus further messing with the timeline (unless she was always supposed to not get incarcerated).๐Ÿค”

This I feel is still a real conundrum for Pike. I think he would be ok condeming himself for the greater good of the timeline or fates, but to condemn the other cadets I feel is beyond him or that episode.

I'm really curious to see how the show deals with this cuz it's not the usual Trek story of stopping some crazy scientist from messing with the timeline.

@StarTrekHour @punkonbus1701 That uniform absolutely rocked. Loved the update, explainable as being from an alternate timeline.

I dunno if #CaptainPike is the kind of person to condemn other people, like the cadets, to their death, which is what he's being asked to do.

As far as him messing up other #StarTrekTOS episodes like #BalanceOfTerror, the answer seems pretty simple to me, save himself and the cadets at the forseen accident, then resign.๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

That would probably mess up the timeline in some other way tho.๐Ÿ˜–

I like that explanation, but I dunno man. The message in #AQualityOfMercy might be to just blow up that damn Romulan ship when he gets the chance.๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ
