Does a man get sent away, too? How unequal for a government that claims to pride its self on #GenderEquality.

@epochemagazine A nice article! Just happened to read Kirk Lougheed's (not so good) IEP-entry on Anti-Natalism, https://iep.utm.edu/anti-natalism/

Antinatalism kinda extends to humans principles well recognised as compassionate when it comes to their pets: neuter, and rescue over breeder.

I’m not #submitting to #patriarchy or failing to "control my #sexual urges" by wanting #kids. I want to #give them what we were #denied, and so many before us: #unconditional #love, deep #respect, and an #upbringing in #community #care, #ecological #reciprocity, and #critical #compassion.
If there were truly a biological impulse to survive, why do we tend to have social prohibitions against suicide? Wouldn't that then be redundant to biology? Asking for a friend. 🧐

Been brought to think about #antinatalism today, and We think We figured out a conclusive string of arguments why as a moral philosophy it just does not make sense.
For some background, We used to be very antinatalist, at the time, We were incredibly depressed, lived for 20+ years without the hormones We didn't know We badly needed, tried antidepressants, doctors, etc., nothing helped in any way that would spell an end to this suffering.
The basic idea of antinatalism is that it is inherently unconsensual to procreate, because you can not ask a child that doesn't exist yet whether they want to exist.
At the time, We hated Ourself so much that We considered Us talking to and existing around other folks a violation of their consent, because We couldn't possibly ask that in advance, (blend in a "they're too nice to decline" as well), so "creating life is unconsensual for the life created" didn't seem like a big stretch to Us, on top of already just deeply wishing We were never born.
The irony in that being that this was the exact opposite of ensuring the consent of others, We had the conclusion and worked Our way backwards, ignoring the things the folks in question were actually saying, it was the opposite of consent.
🧵.
📉 The fact that progressive voices are retreating from discussing demographic decline signals a cultural shift away from unquestioned procreation narratives and reveals political contestation around reproductive choice. It suggests that even mainstream discourse is uncomfortable endorsing increased childbearing, opening room for antinatalist frames.
