a fiction character who is really big, like 7 feet tall, shambling, pro wrestler-looking, wild and shaggy hair. For reasons never made clear he always has glasses on, with the flip-up sun shades, and another pair hanging around his neck on a chain, and a different pair on top if his head, holding his hair out of his eyes. He is a messenger by trade, paid for services other messengers refuse to tackle. He tends to appear out of nowhere, or so it seems, to hand an envelope or small package to someone, or to repeat something to be heard only by that person. After that, he leaves and the recipient probably never sees him again.
His appearance is eccentric and alarming, and at least half of his job is trying to prevent people from running away before he can give his message. He's always showing up, seeing terrified looks on faces, and saying "Don't be afraid."
