Why Buying a Laptop Sucks in 2025

@RnDanger
Don't believe the #AI_Hype. AI is only a smokescreen for outsourcing and layoffs. The systems are just as insecure as they were a year ago, maybe more. The easy tax system Biden put up, for example, has been quietly shuttered.

So the #LabourGovernment have either fallen for the #AI_hype hook, line and sinker - which would be very bad, both in itself and for what it implies about their critical thinking skills - or they know its mostly baloney, but are going along with it because they think it'll play well in the UK's Peoria equivalent. -- which would be much worse.

‘Mainlined into UK’s veins’: Labour announces huge public rollout of AI

Plans to make UK world leader in AI sector include opening access to NHS and other public data

Oh gawd, no... the new Labour gov has drunk the "AI" Kool Aid and gone back for seconds. They're going g to waste a lot of time and money on naked emperors, and it'll probably be the next election before anyone dares to point out the projects are wildly over budget and aren't going to work. Meanwhile the country's problems will be five years worse, and the people five years more cynical and distrustful of democratic politicians. I can even imagine Reform realising there are votes to be had from being scornfully dismissive of AI,.. oh its all too grim /o\

Can't find the Sunday morning schmay-I story online yet, but here's the direction of travel, from yesterday:

UK can be ‘AI sweet spot’: Starmer’s tech minister on regulation, Musk, and free speech

Technology secretary Peter Kyle has the task of making Britain a leading player in the AI revolution, but says economic growth will not come at the cost of online safety

My feeling on the current state of AI can be summed up by “generate crap from stolen content, faster”. #AI_Hype
