A Fine Romance 2x01 "A Helping Hand" shout by RikerDonegal
A delightful episode. Very funny. Easily the best one so far. Good story. Now that Mike and Laura are an actual couple, she takes a big interest in his small business–typing letters, getting new clients, and arranging for new office furniture. Mike feels overwhelmed, and Michael Williams is great fun when he finally blows his top. My 59th TV episode of 2026. Averaging 89 minutes of TV per day. 9/10

Plenty of laughs. Particularly from Geoffrey Rose as (the very strange) Harry. Having spent the night together, Mike and Laura are even more awkward than normal. Writer Bob Larbey really makes a lot from not much, and the upbeat/hopeful ending is very nice. 8/10

Laura's insecurity mars the couple's first morning together.
After seeing Mike with an attractive lunch date, Laura becomes jealous and seeks the company of a neurotic family friend who sticks to her like glue.

A very average episode with almost no story. It seems we are on the verge of Mike and Laura spending the night together, so it should feel significant, but it’s actually quite a dull instalment. There’s another party at Helen and Phil’s, and some clumsy moments from Mike. That’s it. 6/10

Mike's van, and where he can park it for the night in Laura's neighborhood, gets in the way of moving their relationship to a higher plane.
Sensing the stall, Helen and Phil decide they need to help Mike and Laura move on.
