A very average episode with almost no story. It seems we are on the verge of Mike and Laura spending the night together, so it should feel significant, but it’s actually quite a dull instalment. There’s another party at Helen and Phil’s, and some clumsy moments from Mike. That’s it. 6/10
Bob Larbey’s script is about bankruptcy and the very real possibility that Mike’s business will go under. Yet, he keeps the tone upbeat and light-hearted. It grounds the show very much in the real world. And the upbeat ending isn’t unrealistic. If anything, it feels like Mike is merely postponing the inevitable. 8/10

#GlynisBarber guests.
1️⃣ Having devoted the previous episode exclusively to the leads, this episode (cleverly) keeps them apart until near the end.
2️⃣ Another clever thing: lest we viewers take the central romance for granted, this script gives both principals brand new characters to fall for.
3️⃣ The astonishingly-attractive Barber was starring in #Blakes7 season four when this episode first aired.
#AFineRomance 03 (1981) - 7/10
Gentle comedy.
1️⃣ This third episode takes place over the course of a rainy Sunday, with Mike and Laura going to a museum and then a restaurant. Most of the comedy comes from Mike not being good at, well, anything. And Laura is consistently amused by this. She, of course, is a bit of a disaster herself. As we learn when she loses a contact lens.
2️⃣ The supporting cast aren’t in this episode.
3️⃣ There are no big laughs, but it’s all very amiable and enjoyable.
