@randomwizard 's musings on AD&D had me thinking. I too stand by the idea that 2e was not as bad as it's usually painted, it being 95% mechanically similar to 1e, but sans the edgyiness.
Except for a poorly thought out DMG, I have very few misgivings about AD&D2e compared to, say, BX. If 2e had streamlined stats a la BX, removed S-M/L damage, aligned Thief skills with NWPs , used "soft" level caps (or removed them) I think we could have seen a very different 3e #ttrpg #ADnD2
