Overcoming a challenge is not just making a death save and then moving on.
It's thinking about how to avoid having to make that save in the first place because you figured something out to avoid the situation. That gives you that sense of accomplishment.

Back in the mid to late '70's #RPG'ing really had a "wild and crazy" feel to it.
My own D&D/AD&D, "rules" were kitbashed from the original game, the #Arduin books, Chivalry & Sorcery, Bunnies & Burrows (for the alchemy system? I forget), other small booklets, and #Runequest before we dumped it all and settled on Runequest (but not set in Glorantha).

When I was young, one manufacturer od #lead #miniatures made a séries of 12 #dragons an a plastic stone with a stand was packed with it. If you collected all #minis , you could build a circle with the stands and were entiteled to a 13th dragon.
I'm old and I think I'd like to finish, collect these. Anyone remembers the brand making these?

Playing the original boxed set by itself has become such a popular experiment in modern online #OSR circles that it's easy to forget how omnipresent #Greyhawk was back in the day and how essential it was considered.
Tim Kask says they sold at least nine copies of it for every ten of the base rules.
