I built another #A2DVI board for myself. Wanted a THT version as a spare.
I ordered the PCBs a while ago, and today I noticed I had all the required components minus the HDMI port.
So I dug up some scrap from a pile and adapted an HDMI connector stolen from some multimedia thingie. A TV probably.

The last changes to #a2retronet (https://github.com/oliverschmidt/a2retronet) made reading data blazing fast...

But, at least on the Delta, they don't play well with the #A2DVI

During transfers, the card mistakenly interprets bus writes and corrupts its memory.

Unless I put it at the very end of the bus, on slot 7. Seems to like it there.

Another reason why I think the bus of this machine is a noisy mess.

Before going to prepare dinner for my cats, I want to show you two little side projects I worked on these days.

On video you'll see the splash screen of "Silk Dust", an #interactivefiction game by @davbucci which I helped optimize for #apple2e . Here it's running on my Delta clone, out of an #A2DVI with a custom firmware that can output composite artifacting simulation for hires graphics (and not only D*GR).

The splash screen is showing while the game loads the whole text resources in the aux bank of the computer.

You should hopefully be able to play this version soon!

Just for the heck of it, I backported the "NTSC" artifact palette for HIRES mode available to #A2VGA users to #A2DVI.

I did have to study the TMDS format a bit to pull this off.
It is by no means an accurate representation of the NTSC composite artifacts, but I find it much more palatable than the stark, sharp pixels available in the standard HIRES rendering.

A matter of taste, I suppose.

Now, I just need to make this a selectable option in my branch.

#apple2

I bought the #apple2 version of #PETSCIIRobots by David Murray, to try it on the Delta.
Works great, you see the output through the #A2DVI here.

BTW, it doesn't seem there's much in regard of modern games for the 8bit Apple II series. I know of Nox Archaist (but I either need a smartport drive or a dual floppy for that) but not much else.
Anything I missed and I should try?

Back again for half an hour.
I had the chance to test A2D, Prince of Persia, Wizardry, Batman, Little Computer People...
all working great on the #A2DVI on the Delta.

I think the idea of taking the Delta circuitry, rip out the 6545 and other video related components and replace them with an integrated A2DVI is going to be a good route to get a decent //e clone. Maybe not a perfect one, but surely something worthwhile.

Quick pause to go back home before going out again. The #A2DVI got here.
...and it works just fine on the Delta clone.

Just so you know.

The A2DVI card is really nice. Boards arrived back from JLCPCB today. Soldered on the Pico and the diode JLC didn't have in stock, flashed the firmware, dropped it in the Apple IIe and everything Just Works. Lovely.
