Plan 9 Theory and Practice; Everything is a File 1.2

My recreational nerditry this week was to make a patch for the #9front mail client (upas/fs) to be able to optionally ignore unknown certificates on imap and pop tls connections. The smtp part already had it, and my email provider kept expiring certificates which was becoming a nuisance. I sent it to the 9front mailing list.

Okay! neoventi[1] now works with fossil!

neoventi's write speed is kinda trash, though its read speed is quite good; I haven't put much thought into write performance yet.

Fortunately, fossil is so slow that it won't be noticable.

Well, unfortunately.

Regardless, I'm about five minutes from switching my root to running in large part fs code that I've written, which will be fun until I have data loss :D

Because I am very obviously procrastinating I wrote up my notes for installing #9front in #OpenBSD vmd. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I've tracked down the issue to a 14 year old bug introduced in a #9front refactor. It works correctly in rsc's Plan 9 tree.

I guess I can figure out how to contribute a patch? Now that I know what the bug is I can work around it.

"...and uh, the most advanced operating system."

“It’s called UNIX."

Stanley Kubrick definitely would have been a Plan 9 user.

So any reason why on #9Front I am getting the following error stream in the console with an FQA-"approved" keyboard (IBM UltraNav SK-8835) attached over USB? KB works fine but I could do without the messages...

nusb/usbd: usbcmd: /dev/usb/ep10.0: dh|cls|oth gets required 2 attempts (Stall Error)
