Hardware (1990), a sci-fi-action-horror movie starts with a guy finding an old robot head. This is a grungy decaying post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world with a very cool aesthetic. Plenty of mayhem. Some steamy coupling. Hugely entertaining.

Event Horizon (1997) starts as a blatant Alien ripoff then becomes a haunted spaceship movie. A missing spaceship is found but where has it been? I like the way that everything is left ambiguous. Big-budget popcorn movie but fine entertainment.

Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue is a twisted cerebral surreal 1997 Japanese anime psycho-sexual thriller open to multiple interpretations. It's all about playing roles. Often compared to Hitchcock although it's closer in feel to Jess Franco. Superb.
