Day long isopropyl alcohol soak, black rubber sheet tube liner, plus Internal pipe wrench and bam, it's out! Barely needed any effort. #8020AGang
The parts unit also has the cartridge tube stuck. Trying an isopropyl alcohol soak, may add thermal cycling on top of that to dislodge. I also ordered some internal pipe wrenches which might work but will have to think that through, as I don't want to make the problem worse like the prior owner of my first unit did and I don't want to scratch or deform anything even a little.

Drager 1920 M/L: Sanity tested a sample from a new Ebay box before stocking up a family member for an overseas trip. The printing on the M/L looks more washed out compared to the S - no particular concerns about the vendor but I may as well make sure.

I'd already passed in the S size, but it looks like the M/L also fits. The M/L scores even higher but feels looser around the nose/chin. Will have to stress test later.

Probed my first couple of old respirators today just to practise doing fit test exercises.

This battered 3M Vflex fit when I stayed still, but failed with head movement.

The Moldex's nice seal tested well even with head movement, but also fell below 100 FF when I started speaking.

Maybe a true result, or could be due to the old masks, low ambient particle counts or user issue. Will try other models before coming back to these.

Picked up a second hand PortaCount 8020A condensation particle counter, to quantitatively measure how well my different respirators fit (or not).

It's the same type of equipment used to do proper fit tests, which use the ratio of the particles measured outside and inside the mask to work out a fit factor.

Just starting on this with the support of an active circle of hobbyist doing this on the birdsite, but I plan to post future progress here also.
