Quite right! With a few exceptions, Star Trek and other sci-fi shows were a North American phenomenon until much later.

Canada has always been an exception as US television arrived in our major cities via border stations almost as soon as it did in the US. By the mid 60s, most everyone in urban Canada had cable with all the US networks. In many apartment buildings, cable access was included in the rent.

Canadian networks licensing from the US had to get ahead of their US counterparts. That’s why Star Trek premiered in Canada on September 6, 1966 on CTV - two days ahead of its US premiere on NBC.

@twipped I have seen Another World.

And I enjoyed it for what it was, for the optimism and for some of the strong acting. I also very much liked that they managed to make sense of everything in S2 and stick a landing.

I didn’t see the plots as all that similar though.

I saw both more as different 21st century creators takes of a collection of 1970s humanity-on-its-last-legs-in-space trope shows, none of which lasted long, and made for tv movies. These would include #TheStarlost, #Space1999, #BattlestarGallactica, #ArkII etc.

I’ll grant that both feature young and raw officers trying to keep a ship and crew intact, but otherwise, I feel they are going in different directions. I’ll be interested to see whether you find them quite so similar after viewing S2 of the Ark.

Five Red Herrings (1975), last and best of the superb BBC TV adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries starring Ian Carmichael (the definitive screen Lord Peter). Fine writing, great performances by the whole cast. Terrific.

Lord Peter Wimsey - Five Red Herrings (1975)

Five Red Herrings was the last of the superb BBC adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries starring Ian Carmichael. ...

Some of this evening's viewing: classic, old school coolness with The Persuaders. I love that the pair of them were so well known the opening credits only used their surnames, as if to say "you know these guys".
