Mail day!

Straight from Arrow Video: Don’t Torture a Duckling, fresh out of the oven in glorious 4K!

At the start of the year, I told myself I’d cut back on BD-to-UHD upgrades and focus on buying movies I don’t already own. But hey, there are always exceptions – for example, Fulci and other Italian gore masters need to be in the best possible format. If nothing else, just to show some support.

That said, I think most 4K releases don’t actually look that much better than Blu-ray, so it’s not always worth throwing money at UHD upgrades, especially when you could be picking up new flicks instead. Otherwise, you risk getting stuck in an endless upgrade cycle.

I still remember when the Blu-ray format hit the market. The jump from DVD (let alone VHS) to full HD was a massive leap, and movies genuinely looked so much better. Now, the difference between 1080p and 2160p in 4K is noticeably smaller… especially when it’s a half-assed cash grab.

That said, hats off to Second Sight, Severin, Arrow, and the rest who actually put time and effort into proper restorations.
