Having spent many many MANY desperate hours there in the past, it’s hard for me to imagine anything good EVER coming out of Worcester, Massachusetts.
But here we are.

Orpheus was part of something called “The Bosstown Sound”; which was kind of a catch-all phrase to help market #psychedelic rock and pop music from my hometown of Boston in the late #1960s .
Think of it as the “grunge” or “alternative” marketing ploy of its day.

Musically speaking, the best thing about Ascending are the lush, velvety orchestral arrangements. They add a lovely bit of whimsy and sophistication to what are already well-written sunshine pop / psych tunes.

Pretty good record, and they certainly had their moment in the sun; making four records and touring with Cream, Janis Joplin and The Who.

A pretty fun, breezy kind of #psychedelic record, rather than the acid-soaked dark psych records of the same era.

Kind of a connector between sunshine-y #60s pop and the bevy of drug-fueled psych that started in ‘67/‘68.

Pretty fun album that sold poorly, but has since become a cult favorite.

A bit of a curveball for you; one I haven’t heard in a long while.

Late #60s #psychedelic sunshine pop with orchestral arrangements and packed by fairy tale lyrics.

It’s got a bit of a whimsical musical theatre quality with a trippy #60s psych twist.

Think of a lighter, more theatrical Odyssey and Oracle, maybe?

I don’t know man.

Whatever it is, I find it charming and kinda cool.

Another perfect choice for a delightful, lazy Sunday afternoon.

I’m a big fan of the quiet-ish mellow Bill Evans records, and other than You Must Believe In Spring, this might be my favorite one.

It’s so laid back, so beautiful, and one of those all-purpose any time, anywhere kind of records.

Maximum Sunday chillage.
