This building is another example of modernist architecture in Bologna. It is located on Piazza 8 Agosto. The simple structure of two blocks with different facade grid and build from different material pushed together is not too interesting but the huge antennas on top of the left block let the building look rather odd and somehow organic as if the building had much more agency than being an office building only.

This unusual residential and commercial building stands on the largest square, Piazza 8 Agosto, in the center of Bologna. I am particularly struck by the impression of the additive, as if the entire building had been pieced together from different structures. And then there is this clock, its round clock face contrasting with the square grid of the façade. Irritating. An eye-catcher, isn't it?

The ancient and medieval center of Ravenna was heavily damaged before and during the Second World War. Before the war, the city was redesigned according to fascist ideology. During the war, the German Wehrmacht and Allied bombing destroyed parts of the city center. The gaps left by this destruction were filled in the 1960s with buildings designed by architects who had previously worked for the fascist regime. The slightly curved façade of the residential and commercial building in the belongs to the taste of the 60s. However, the strict rectangular symmetry could also be from the fascist era.

Some say there are only two beautiful buildings in #Hamburg. The Chilehaus, built in the 1920s by #architect Fritz Höger, and the former HEW administration building by Arne Jacobsen. So here is the classic by Arne Jacobsen from the 60s. A kind of total work of art, because Jacobsen also significantly influenced the layout of the surrounding garden and the interior design. It is also a forward-looking building - instead of open-plan offices, small modular office spaces were used.

Takes me back to the pre-troubles #border of my childhood in early #60ies. #Fermanagh #Leitrim had a 🇮🇪 customs post just like that at Garrison. The lone customs officer used to park his 🚴‍♂️ against the office door just so. When not looking for #butter #bacon #tobacco and other evil contraband he used to take us fishing on #Lough Melvin. He was 22 IIRC.
