I’m getting back into my old ways when it comes to listening to music. Instead of letting an algorithm decide what I should be listening to, I am revisiting my (digitized) CD and album collection. Today’s album selection at the moment is “Time and Tide” by Basia from 1987.

I remember driving in my 1982 Dodge Omni back in the day, this album playing off the cassette over the tinny built in speakers in the dash. I found this album glorious back then and it’s extra glorious today through my Bose in-ear headphones.

Listening to entire albums has been really enjoyable over the past couple of days. I feel like I’m seeing the entire piece of art, instead of a snippet thrown in a magazine or something.

If you’ve never heard of Basia or listened to her music, I highly recommend this album. The instrumentation in “Run For Cover” is a lot of fun, Basia’s vocals in the ballad “Time and Tide” are particularly inspiring, and the radio single, “New Day For You” (which surprisingly only reached #53 on the Top 40 back in ’87, though it did quite well on the Adult Contemporary chart) is always a seemingly forgotten gem.

I’m sure the album is available on the streaming services for those that go that route.
