It’s interesting that the land titles for active communities of descendants of escapees from chattel slavery, as is the case in #Jamaica, #Suriname, #FrenchGuiana and #Brazil, are the closest that many American countries have gotten to the hypothetical “40 acres and a mule”. #40AcresAndAMule #slavery #maroons #quilombola

The film is bookended by probably the weirdest — and perfect — context ever committed to film (which I will not reveal in case you haven’t seen it).

1977 was a time when things were changing in ways that it took the ’60s years to accomplish. The serial murders are both a conceit and catalyst for the plot, as characters’ lives are irrevocably altered in one intense summer. We know these people, and their lives.
