A look back on finally finishing the 250 box challenge for Drawabox! Never thought I could do it but I did!!

Now time for lesson 2...

Something of a milestone.

#DrawABox #250BoxChallenge

Kind of amused that I've been so focused on getting the back corner of the #250BoxChallenge boxes right, when the instructions for the challenge literally say "Don't worry about the back corner being off."

The amusing part is that my solution for getting that back corner right is to do exactly what he wants you to do, focus on the *front* angles. Because I've realized that if the angles of the visible edges aren't correct in perspective, there's no possible way the hidden vertex will be. But if I do them correct, the back corner will be right almost by default.

And that's kind of the point of the exercise, I think.

The #250BoxChallenge at #DrawABox continues to be frustrating.

My working theory is that the visible sides need to be perfect, or at least nearly so, otherwise the hidden vertex at the back of the box cannot be correct, and thus the edges that connect to it will be off. This seems to bear out in practice, as a box drawn with visual vanishing points off the page results in a more or less correct rear edges.

The problem I have is whether this is an issue of skill in drawing lines and "ghosting" where the line leading to the vanishing point should go, or a conceptual one, where I am not imagining the VP and the line to it well enough. At this point I don't know.

I'm probably beating myself up over this too much, given I'm only at 60/250 boxes, and the remaining 190 attempts will provide practice for both. But I expect I will continue to worry as I go along for the next few weeks.

I'm not going to post every page of the #250BoxChallenge but it does seem auspicious to post my *first* one.

This is my third run at #DrawABox and the second didn't even get to the end of Lesson One. So the first milestone is to pass the halfway point, which will put me ahead of both attempts.

As to this page...it's better than I expected if we're being honest. After how shaky I've been on the previous exercises I was expecting quite a lot more jank.

Day 20 in #100DaysOfSketching #100DaysOfArt and since I am picking up #Drawabox lessons again I wanted to experiment with a new method that I will be working on for the #250BoxChallenge before I look into how the actual method is. So treat this as a before I guess. Still have one more homework lesson to finish before I can dive in, but I am excited to get going soon enough!
