Ubuntu 24.04.3 Noble Numbat has been Released

Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat was released on April 25th, 2024, to give you the latest LTS version of Ubuntu, packed with awesome features and improved desktop user experience. Since then, the point releases of the LTS version were released to bring more bug fixes and to bring general improvements to maximize your productivity.

The third point release of Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat has seen some progress, including backport bugs and other tracking bugs. Ubuntu 24.04.3 is now live!

You can now download the new point release CD images using this link, which allows you to download the desktop version of Ubuntu. If you are hosting a server, you can download this version of Ubuntu Server here.

Existing Ubuntu 24.04 installations can now be upgraded to this point release by installing all the available update and restarting the computer.

Ubuntu 24.04.3 starts development

Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat was released on April 25th, 2024, to give you the latest LTS version of Ubuntu, packed with awesome features and improved desktop user experience. Since then, the two point releases of the LTS versions were released to bring more bug fixes and to bring general improvements to maximize your productivity.

Recently, there has been work that revolved around releasing the third point version of Ubuntu, which will bring even more improvements and bug fixes. Today, the first set of release candidate disks for this Ubuntu point release were released under this link, while the Launchpad milestone can be found here.

The full changelogs for this point release that will be released soon can be found here, with some of the bug fixes including, but not limited to:

  • Installation bug fixes
    • Fix build failure when using lowlatency-hwe-24.04, as ubuntustudio does.
    • Remove some cruft referencing the subiquity snap, which can result in ‘error: snap “subiquity” is not installed’ messages being printed on the terminal.
    • Backport from questing to enable boot on Pine64 Star64 and DeepComputing FML13V01
  • Desktop fixes
    • Fix duplicated audio samples played after silence
    • Backport code from upstream to fix arrow keys closing the rename popup instead of moving the cursor
    • Backport patches to fix crash with pointer-constraints and touch
    • Fix issue where glxgears runs slower than display refresh rate
    • Add onscreen-native-Return-the-correct-number-of-EGL-modifier.patch to fix multi-monitor reverse PRIME support on desktops where Nvidia is primary and an integrated GPU is secondary.
    • Backport patch to fix setenv/getenv crash on startup
    • Fix window selected from preview not getting focus
    • If a client application has not called DRI2ScreenInit(), DRI2Authenticate() and DRI2CreateDrawable2() cause the X server to crash. This patch adds some sanity checks to ensure the X server stays running.
    • Backport patches to avoid crash after the busy-loop fix. With the busy-loop fixed, XWayland can now proceed further and may encounter a new crash.
    • Add rt713 & rt1318 LED control
    • AMD platform A + N config selected wrong primary GPU in Xorg d/p/0001-linux_sysfs-Identify-boot_vga-by-acpi-companion-hid.patch
    • Revert to 0.17-3build1 since the previous update appears to cause inability to log in to the desktop on some systems
  • Server and cloud fixes
    • Pull in the upstream commit works around a limitation in AWS’s IMDS
    • d/control: Fix how cloud-init-base overwrites cloud-init files.
  • Base platform fixes
    • d/p/u/lp-2084136-fix-get-number-block-io-throttle-params.patch: Fix issue preventing the user to obtain the number of block I/O parameters.
    • Fix compiler macro to correctly detect RISC-V
    • Add full boot order support on s390x
    • d/p/u/lp2106812-cpu_map-Drop-mpx-from-x86-cpu-models.patch: Memory protection extensions (MPX) were introduced in Intel Skylake generation CPUs and provided hardware support for bound checking. This feature will not be supported in Intel CPUs beginning with the Ice Lake generation. Remove missing mpx feature so that libvirts detects correctly CPU models (Icelake, …) instead of the old Blackwell
    • Fix generation of AppArmor profile with incorrect revision during multi snap refresh. Fix refresh app awareness related deadlock edge case
    • Add git-reconnect-fix.patch to resolve reconnection problems for devices after a suspend or restart
    • SECURITY REGRESSION: exception during core dump handling
    • Backport netplan.io 1.1.2-2
    • Add Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka”
    • Only revoke weak RSA keys for now, add ‘next’ and ‘future’ levels (backported from 2.9.7)

Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat was released on April 25th, 2024, to give you the latest LTS version of Ubuntu, packed with awesome features and improved desktop user experience. Since then, the first point release of the LTS versions was released to bring more bug fixes and to bring general improvements to maximize your productivity.

The second point release of Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat according to the status tracking live document has seen some progress, including backport bugs and other tracking bugs. Currently, it says that the second point release is in progress at this time, with the release of 24.04.2 slated to be released on February 13th, 2025.

The document also has links to both the outstanding bugs that may or may not delay the release of the point release and the release checklist that makes sure that the release is to be out at the highest quality the Ubuntu team expects.

Today, we’ve seen bugs that track the release status, with 4 new bugs that are yet to be worked on, 4 confirmed, 2 in progress, 8 fix committed, and 1 fix released. The most prominent ones include:

This means that yesterday, the appropriate Ubuntu teams, including the SRU team, have started working on this point release of Ubuntu to meet the expected deadline of February 13th. Should there be any delay planned, we’ll update you.

Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat was released on April 25th, 2024, to give you the latest LTS version of Ubuntu, packed with awesome features and improved desktop user experience. Since then, the first point release of the LTS versions was released to bring more bug fixes and to bring general improvements to maximize your productivity.

Today, we’ve spotted the second point release of Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat according to the status tracking live document. Currently, it says that the second point release is in progress at this time, with the release of 24.04.2 slated to be released on February 13th, 2025.

The document also has links to both the outstanding bugs that may or may not delay the release of the point release and the release checklist that makes sure that the release is to be out at the highest quality the Ubuntu team expects.

Since the Discourse status thread was created, the checklist currently lists the status thread task to be done, along with a list of to-dos that are expected to be done prior to the final release, which is expected to be on February 13th, 2025.

Should there be any blocking bugs, the Ubuntu release team may decide to delay the release, but we hope that there will be no such bugs that cause the delay.
